All about Domain Names

All about Domain Names - A domain name is basically a pointer on the Internet. Most of the website you've ever been to, and every email you've ever composed, has used a domain name in its address. The individual or organization that registers a specific domain name with InterNIC, holds the right to use that particular domain name for a specified period of time, provided certain conditions are met and the registration fees are paid. This person or organization is the "legal entity" bound by the terms of the Domain Name Registration Agreement. Registration of domain name includes transfer the following three elements to a newly created domain name: (1) ownership; (2) agents to act on behalf of the owner; and (3) a "location" for the domain name within the internet system so that other internet users can find it. The owner is referred to as the "registrant" and the agents are called "contacts", as they represent the point of contact for resolving administrative issues, billing/renewal issues, and technical issues ("technical contact").
